Children's Privacy Notice
Effective date:
For children & families
This page explains what Totchi knows about you — and what it doesn’t. We’ve written this so that children aged 8 and over can read it too.
If you’re a parent or carer, the full details are further down this page. You can also read our full Privacy Policy.
For children
What does Totchi know about me?
Totchi knows very little about you. Here is what we know:
Your nickname — a label your parent chose when they set up your profile. They were asked to use a nickname, so it might not be your real name.
Your story group — whether you listen to Minis or Older stories. Your parent chose this when they set up your profile.
Which stories you’ve listened to — so Totchi remembers where you are in a series.
That’s it. Totchi does not know your birthday, your address, or anything else about you. Your parent or carer created your profile — you didn’t have to sign up yourself.
Who can see my information?
Only your parent or carer can see your Totchi profile. They can see which stories you’ve listened to and which ones are next.
The Totchi team can also see this information when they need to help with a problem — but they treat it carefully and keep it private.
We never share information about you with advertisers or other companies.
How long does Totchi keep my information?
Totchi keeps your information while your family has an active account. If your parent closes the account, all your information is deleted within 30 days.
What if I want my information removed?
Talk to your parent or carer — they can delete your profile from within the app, or close the whole account. If you need help, you can email us at [email protected].

What data do we hold about children?
Totchi applies strict data minimisation. We collect only:
Profile nickname — a label entered by the parent to identify the profile. Parents are guided to use a nickname rather than the child’s real name. We do not prompt for or require a real name.
Age group (Minis or Older) — selected by the parent at profile creation. We do not collect date of birth.
Listening progress — which stories a child has completed within a topic, used to maintain sequential unlocking.
We do not require: the child’s real name, date of birth, contact details, location data, photographs, or any biometric data.
Legal basis for processing
Processing is carried out under Article 6(1)(b) UK GDPR — performance of a contract to which the parent is party. The parent is the contracting party; the child is the beneficiary. No separate consent from the child is required.
Children do not register directly and cannot create their own accounts. All profiles are created and managed by a parent or carer.
Sharing of children’s data
Children’s profile data is accessible only to: the parent who created the profile; Totchi’s internal team for support purposes; and Cloudflare (infrastructure provider), under a Data Processing Agreement. We do not share children’s data with advertisers or third parties for commercial purposes. We do not profile children.
App stores. Subscriptions are billed by Apple or Google depending on where the app was downloaded. That billing relationship is with the parent account holder only. No child profile data — nickname, age group, or listening progress — is passed to Apple or Google at any point.
Data retention
Children’s profile data is retained for the duration of the active family subscription. On account closure or deletion request, all child data is permanently deleted within 30 days, in line with GDPR Article 17.
No tracking or profiling
Totchi does not use behavioural profiling, targeted advertising, or tracking in relation to children. Listening progress is used solely to maintain the sequential story unlocking feature. No analytics tools are active within the mobile app or on any screen a child can reach.
No geolocation
Totchi does not collect or process location data for any child.
Privacy by default
All privacy settings default to the most protective option. No setting will result in more data being collected from a child without an explicit parent action.
